Last week, in Vienna, I’m constantly translating their time into Boston time.
Now that I’m back, I’m still translating time into… what?
The time here doesn’t need translating, but my brain’s doing the mental gymnastics automatically.
And it gets me thinking about your Elevator Pitch.
Because so many people at networking events cycle through several pitches before choosing one at random.
Maybe that’s why networking is so exhausting.
Until you pick a time zone.
No More Second Guessing
Picking a time zone means never having to second guess your pitch.
- Should I talk about this service?
- Or that one?
- Or maybe I should be more general?
- What does this person want?
When you choose ahead of time what you’re going to talk about, you can clearly and confidently get into productive conversations.
But… But… But…
How do you choose what to talk about?
Here are the three steps:
- Come up with 3 short pitches.
- Pick one and use it for two weeks. Pay attention to the questions people ask and the stories they tell.
- Try a different pitch and keep refining until your pitch starts productive conversations.
Once you choose your “pitch time zone,” two things happen:
- You stop scrambling. No more on-the-fly translation.
- People finally get what you do. Because you’re clear, consistent, and confident.
That leads to better conversations.
That leads to better referrals.
That leads to better clients.
Your Turn
Do you cycle through multiple pitches on the fly?
How much more confident would you be if you could pick the one that consistently starts the best conversations?
That’s what we work on in the Pitch Lab.
Over six weeks you’ll test and refine your pitch so it reliably starts productive business conversations.
